Kickoff is always chaos in the best way — a room full of teams finding out the new game for the first time, screaming when the reveal video drops, and then immediately trying to plan six weeks of work in our heads before we’ve even left the building. This year our Kickoff in San Antonio had an extra reason to be excited: we got to help announce two new tools from Yet Another Software Suite (YASS), the FRC organization we helped found.

Say hello to YAMS (Yet Another Mechanism System) and YAMG (Yet Another Mechanism Generator). Together, they’re built to do for mechanisms what YAGSL already does for swerve drive — take something that usually takes a team weeks of trial and error to program correctly, and make it something any team, regardless of experience or resources, can get working quickly and reliably.

We got to spend some time at Kickoff walking other teams through how it works and why we built it. Watching a team realize they can skip weeks of debugging on something we all used to dread programming from scratch — that’s exactly why YASS exists in the first place.

Six weeks of build season starts now. Let’s go.
